The figure illustrates the differences in the amount of volatile organic compounds that can be found in drug formulations. These substances may, thus, be used as indicators to identify a pharmaceutical product, and to reveal an illicit drug copy .

Conclusion: When comparing the two drug "signatures" in the figure, it seems clear that these are distinct. The drug with the red "signature" may, thus, be an illicit copy of the original drug with the green "signature".
